Indian Classical Bansuri Flute Learning – Online Bansuri Classes

Indian classical music or Shāstriya Sangīt is a tradition that originated in Vedic ritual chants and has been evolving since the 12th century. The tradition dates back to the ancient Samaveda in which the verses are chanted in different musical Shrutis.

Indian classical Bansuri is one of the oldest musical instruments of India. Lord Krishna played Bansuri flute while he was accompanied by Gopis and surrounded by cows. It is an absolute joy to learn this amazing instrument.

Nandanavana Bansuri Sangeet Academy was founded in 2008 with the vision of providing a platform to learn the pure form of Indian classical Bansuri music to aspirants around the world. In our academy hundreds of students have learnt basics of Bansuri and many of them are continuing their advanced learning in our academy since many years.

Maihar-Senia Gharana (School of Music)

In our academy we learn Indian classical Bansuri music in the tradition of Maihar-Senia Gharana. The school of Maihar-Senia Gharana comes from Sant Haridas and his disciple Tansen of the 15th century. In our Gharana, importance is given to purity and serenity of the ragas and the belief that Ragas are sung and played for one’s own happiness and self-elevation.

Indian classical music is Gurumukhi Vidya (Education learnt from Guru) which has been and is being transferred from Guru to disciples for centuries. Most recent great exponents of Maihar-Senia Gharana are Acharya Allauddin Khan, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Guruma Annapurna Devi and in Bansuri artistes; Pandit Pannalal Ghosh and Pandit Nityanand Haldipur.

Bansuri Flute Lessons via Online Video Conferencing

To learn and understand Indian classical bansuri music many years are required. Indian classical bansuri music is very simple and easily playable, given a student approaches the bansuri learning with patience and persistence.

With the help of modern technology and hi-speed internet now we have video conferencing is very reliable.

In other Indian classical instruments like Sitar, Violin, Sarod etc which need proper tuning every time we play the instrument, it makes the beginner student very difficult to tune the instrument without the physical presence of the teacher. Bansuri flute is an instrument that once we have the properly tuned good bansuri flute, it always remains that way. It requires no tuning everytime we play the flute. This integral quality of bansuri flute makes the video conferencing online bansuri classes very effective.

The approach and the way we learn bansuri in Online Bansuri classes is very similar to the conventional method of learning via in-person bansuri classes. Similar to in person bansuri classes, in online bansuri classes the Guru and the Shishya-Student will be communicating and interacting live and spontaneously, although physically being located in two different places.

We diligently approach the in-person classes as well as online bansuri classes with lots of love and reverence as it is the continuation of our Sangeet Parampara – The Musical Lineage.
